I applied to the Adobe Creative Residency Community fund and was chosen to receive a grand to do a personal project of my choosing. This project is titled “Ghetto Aesthetic”. It’s a celebration of 90’s eccentric black style inspired by the idea that black culture is “ghetto until proven fashionable”. This is a continuation of a common theme in my work, which surround me being a black woman choosing to own the narrative and place black women in spaces of authentic regality.

“Ghetto Aesthetic” is meant to encourage you to stop, pause and reflect on the immediate biases you might feel in association with ‘ghetto black style’.
